David Brenner’s “Growth for Tomorrow” installation at 100 Altair is part of the City of Sunnyvale’s public art for private development, commissioned by The Minkoff Group.
The work was designed to pay homage to the past while simultaneously looking toward the future. As viewers approach the building from the east, they’re presented with a colorful palette representing the stone fruit orchards which once grew here. This industry was paramount to Silicon Valley’s early economic success, represented by varieties like Oxalis 'Plum Crazy' and Heuchera ‘Georgia Peach’. Approaching from the west, viewers see a lush green palette including California native Licorice Fern and chartreuse wispy highlights of Carex ‘Everillo’—representing future growth.
Inside, a towering 26’ x 33’ living wall welcomes visitors into the lobby.
